Foreman Required for Cape Town Montessori School

Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Foreman to join our passionate team at Cape Town Montessori School. The ideal candidate will be responsible for carrying out the maintenance and operations of the school's property, ensuring a safe, clean, and functional environment for our students, staff, and visitors.

 

Responsibilities:

 

1. Property Maintenance:

▪ Conduct regular inspections of the school property to identify maintenance needs.

▪ Coordinate and perform routine maintenance tasks, including repairs, painting, and landscaping.

▪ Report to the property liaison/HOS regarding contractors and external service providers for larger maintenance projects.

 

2. Safety and Security:

▪ Maintain and enforce safety protocols and procedures provided by the property liaison (Health and Safety Officer) to ensure the well-being of students, staff, and visitors.

▪ Monitor security systems and respond promptly to any security concerns or emergencies.

▪ Conduct regular safety inspections and address any and all hazards or risks on the property; i.e. maintain a child-friendly safe environment.

 

3. Equipment and Facilities Management:

▪ Manage inventory and procurement of equipment and supplies necessary for the operation of theschool.

▪ Ensure that all equipment and facilities meet regulatory standards and maintain proper functionality.

▪ Keep a stock take log of all equipment and ensure weekly cleaning and maintenance of equipment.

▪ Coordinate with relevant staff to schedule maintenance and repairs for equipment and facilities.

▪ Manage all areas of the school and property in its entirety, including the lawn and garden.

 

4. Team Supervision:

▪ Support property Liaison with the supervision of maintenance staff, including cleaners and grounds keepers.

▪ Delegate tasks and responsibilities effectively to ensure efficient operation and maintenance of the property.

▪ Plan ahead on all property matters and report to the Property Liaison and Head of School in thisregard.

 

5. Budget Management:

▪ Assist in the development and management of the annual maintenance budget with the Liaison and Head of School.

Monitor expenses and ensure that maintenance activities are conducted within budgetary constraints.

▪ Identify cost-saving opportunities and propose strategies to optimize resource allocation.

 

Instructions:

Fair and Reasonable Requests: Both parties agree that fair and reasonable requests about the fulfilment ofthe contract may be communicated verbally or in writing from time to time. Such requests shall be considered valid and binding upon mutual agreement, and both parties shall make their best efforts to accommodate and fulfil them within a reasonable time frame.

 

Qualifications:

▪ Sound judgment and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on safety and efficiency.

▪ Proven experience in property maintenance and management, preferably in an educational setting.

▪ Strong knowledge of building systems, equipment, and facilities management.

▪ Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively supervise and motivate a team.

▪ Good organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

▪ Basic Knowledge of relevant health and safety regulations and compliance standards.

▪ Proficiency in basic computer skills and familiarity with maintenance management software is desirable.

▪ Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Education and Experience:

▪ High school certificate or equivalent; additional certification or training in maintenance or facilities management is preferred.

▪ Prior experience in a similar role, with at least [10 years] of experience in property maintenance and supervision.
